This morning we looked at the Fibonacci sequence in a 'trial lesson' for one of my favourite Mathematical websites: YouCubed.
We looked at the sequence and then saw it's relationship to square numbers.
After this we talked about 'the golden ratio' and how it relates to the Ficonacci Sequence. We then looked to see how it was used in nature and we discussed whether the Nautilus (a creature that divides Mathematicians) Shell had a spiral of the 'golden ratio'.
The "golden ratio" is a unique mathematical relationship, and easy to spot in the natural world. ... The golden ratio is about 1.618, and represented by the Greek letter phi.
It was a very interesting lesson and some of us have taken it home to explore further...
