How Long? - Sam

25/9/2018

I was scared, worried and frightened.

Mother said that I’m going away from home to miss the bombs.

My dad had gone off to fight, so it was just me and her, but now only me.

I hopped on the train staring back at my mother for a few seconds. The doors started to close. I waved her goodbye. I looked at the platform - it seemed to be going backwards, and so did she.

I shed one last tear and then I looked away. I was petrified because I didn’t know how long the war was going to be.

Sitting on the train: was this the beginning of a big adventure or a treacherous time away from home?

I stared from inside of the train window, I couldn't see much because the window was all muffled up. The platform was still there but It seemed to be going backwards.I was off. Abandoned? Homeless? Being sent to the middle of nowhere!

Goodness knows what will happen to me?

The gruesome smell of smoky cigarets was evident:the darkness and sorrow on everyone's faces; the repetitive sound of clunking and crashing from the amount of carriages - however I tried to remain calm."The war will be over soon," were the echoes of my mother's voice that I heard in my mind.

Then suddenly I thought of my house, my parents all getting bombed and gone forever. Then I felt a tear drip down my face...

No One Knows... - Gracie

I wasn’t aware that night as my dreams exploded. Hands massaged my head dragging away all memories of past, present and future. My life was flashing before my eyes eyes but it seemed to be going backwards.

Shrinking. I was shrinking. Pain swam up my legs contorting them into nothing while my arms became one. White, blinding light shone out the darkness, lifting me up and moving me away.

That was when I could breath that short breath before I welcomed silence into my life. No one understood. No one knows what happened.

Bad Flight - Lucia

Sitting on a plane: was this the beginning of a big adventure or a treacherous time away from home? I stared outwardly into the hustle and bustle of the airport and the flight to Spain. The plane was still but it seemed to be going backwards. I was off! Abandoned.? Homeless? Being sent into the unknown. The stinking smell of wine was evident; the colour and gloominess of it all was disgusting.

The Broken Ferris Wheel - Aoife

Finally I was allowed to go on the big wheel! My older sister always loved it and her boasting was endless. The smell of cotton candy followed me as I got into my seat (with my sister for company). But as it started moving it seemed to be going backwards...quicker and quicker now it was going at an alarming speed. There was a pure look of terror on my sisters face and I suspect there was a similar look on mine. As I whirled faster and faster I started to feel sick. Uh oh..What had gone wrong?

...but it seemed to be going backwards...

Back to a puzzle question this week! The prompt is:
…but it seemed to be going backwards…
Things to consider:
  • What is ‘it’?
  • Why does the direction it is going in matter?
  • Is this a good or bad happening?

I Love Swimming - Esme

“I hate swimming” I shouted at my mum because I simply hated swimming. It was because my teacher was an 80 year old women who loves mauve. She has mauve towels, mauve swimming costumes even mauve goggles (which you can nearly see out of because they’re so dusty). She’s always telling us to swim like alligators which is hard beacause we’re not actually alligators. I’ve got the worst teacher, in the worst pool so that’s why it’s the worst swimming lesson ever. I went and climbed into the pool trembling with fear. Then someone shouted “let’s get swimming” it wasn’t miss mauve -as we call her - it wasn’t one of the parents. It was a new swimming teacher. Best day ever!

Pushed - Lucia

Getting changed at swimming club (before my swimming lessons) and I already knew something will be different today.

Picking up my bag and my water bottle, ready to do my swimming lesson for the teacher.

As I went in to the hall I saw the teacher swimming like a alligator because all the children dared her to swim like a alligator. The teacher tried to charm everyone down but they didn't because her body was covered in a mauve colour.

I climbed out of the water and then someone pushed me back in the water again. But the teacher shouted at me; I fell back in AGAIN !

The Sunset - Anthony

Dark gloomy sky; pale red and mauve sunset; clouds of dust and sand could be seen in the distance. The horizon became unclear and tricky to understand: earth joined the sky!

An incredible posture was coming out of nowhere. At last the predator alligator climbed out of the murky waters. I ran. Ran for my life. Was there anybody around me?

Luckily there was a young looking adult who turned out to be a P.E Teacher. I had told him about this situation and it all became clear that they had to evacuate...

Bit me like an alligator - Sam

Walking into the swimming pool (before my lesson) didn’t feel right.
I put on my mauve swimming trunks and ran to the pool side.
I was searching for my swimming teacher – but she wasn’t there! A creepy looking man screamed at me to get into the pool. I jumped in. He bit me like an alligator! I tried to escape, but it was tricky.
I kicked him over and over again. It was like a game of tag! The only difference was there was a creepy man trying to eat me.
He sank to the bottom. I climbed out and ran home.
